FIONA STANLEY HOSPITAL —
NEUROSURGERY AND TRAUMA FACILITIES
472. Dr J.M. WOOLLARD to the Minister for Health:
I ask a supplementary question. Is the minister aware that
there are often delays in using the neurosurgical theatre services at Sir
Charles Gairdner Hospital, and that most other states have two neurosurgical
units, if not three in some states?

AnswerView source ↗

This design, if you like, has been made by the leading
neurosurgeons in this town. They have worked out what is best for the operation
of that service. I can tell the member that I have had no involvement
whatsoever in making those decisions; they will be made by the neurosurgeons
themselves. They are doing things that are safest for patients and deciding on
the locations where it is best to provide those services. They will be
providing the services that they want to provide in a single service across the
state. As I said before, this is the very top level of neurosurgical services
at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. At level 6 there is no higher level.
