This parliamentary question addresses concerns from the Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding the four-year tenure limit for service worker accommodation in Karratha, particularly as businesses providing essential services face eviction despite housing shortages. Karratha—Service worker accommodation
515. Hon Julie Freeman to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Housing and Works:
I refer to concerns
raised by the Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding
the four-year service worker accommodation tenure limit in Karratha and reports
that businesses providing essential services are being required to vacate accommodation
despite ongoing housing shortages in the region.
(1) Will the minister review the four-year
tenure limit for service worker accommodation in Karratha?
(2) Will the minister intervene to
prevent affected businesses from being forced to vacate when no alternative
accommodation is available?
(3) How many businesses in Karratha are
currently expected to reach the tenure limit and lose access to service worker
accommodation within the next 12 months?
