ROYALTIES FOR REGIONS — FUEL CARD PROMISE
I refer to the delayed royalties for regions fuel card promise and to the tying of its eligibility to access to public transport. (1) Will the residents of Broome, Bunbury, Busselton, Kalgoorlie, Albany, Geraldton, Karratha, Carnarvon and Port Hedland—towns that have publicly funded town bus services—be eligible for the fuel card? (2) Have we yet got any clarity on which communities will be ineligible for this election promise? Mr B.J. GRYLLS

I thank the member for Armadale for her question. (1)-(2) I can confirm to the house that the finer details of the country age pensioner fuel card continue to be worked on. The member for Armadale raised some issues regarding this yesterday. It is a very important issue and I intend to get it right. I am speaking with the member for Darling Range about some of the intricacies of implementing the program in his electorate. As I have said previously, the fundamental principle behind the country age pensioner fuel card is to make available to country age pensioners who do not have access to public transport and need to undertake essential travel for health or other reasons some level of equity with their metropolitan counterparts. We need to make sure that we get that right. I can confirm to the member for Armadale that the full eligibility criteria will be made available when we announce the scheme.
