VACCINE SAFETY
SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM ANNUAL REPORT
820. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the answer provided
yesterday that ''To date, 6 006 reported events have been extracted from
WAVSS''.
(1) Noting the
words ''extracted'' and ''to date'', can the
minister clarify whether the 6 006 reported events are a subset of a larger
dataset within the Western Australian Vaccine Safety Surveillance system?
(2) Can the
minister advise how many adverse event reports WAVSS received in total from the
public in the 2022 calendar year, including reports that were deemed to be
ineligible for extraction?
(3) Will the
minister table any documents that outline the methodology of how adverse event
reports are extracted from WAVSS?
(4) Can the
minister confirm that timely, accurate and transparent WAVSS reporting is
critical to countering vaccine hesitancy, especially with respect to childhood
vaccines?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. On behalf of the Leader of the House, I provide the following
response.
(1) Yes. The
WAVSS system contains all records on adverse events following immunisation
reporting to the system in WA from 2011 onwards, and this is a subset
containing data for 2022.
(2) The number of adverse event
reports received from the public in 2022 was 5 456.
(3) The vaccine
safety team has standard operating procedures for extracting and data cleaning.
These documents can be tabled if required.
(4) Yes.
