The Department of Corrective Services advises: Total available capacity is the total number of beds at adult prisons/facilities and includes double occupancy in cells which are not approved for long-term double occupancy, and excludes the following: non-standard beds (i.e. disciplinary segregation, observation/crisis care, hospital infirmary/medical beds); beds not currently available due to refurbishment; and beds in facilities or sections of facilities which have been decommissioned. Levels of staffing, funding and support services at any given time may vary the number of beds in use. [please see tabled paper no.]
