BAY VILLAGE WORKER CAMP — WOODSIDE ENERGY —JOINT

884. Mr V.A. CATANIA to the Premier:
I refer the Premier to Woodside's
decision to appeal the decision by the joint development assessment panel
regarding its Bay Village camp in Karratha.
(1) Does the
Premier believe that the City of Karratha requests are reasonable?
(2) Does he
support Woodside's appeal against the conditions?

(1)–(2) As
I understand it, under the act, Woodside has a right to appeal the decision of
the joint development assessment panel. In exercising its legal right, I would
allow Woodside to do so. I am not interfering in its right to do so. On the
broader point of allowing for there to be a workforce to ensure Browse gas can
come onshore, I will not allow anything to get in the way of bringing that
Browse gas to Karratha because I want to see Karratha have a long-term future.
When I was in Karratha to open the new hospital a couple of weeks ago with the
Minister for Health and the member for Pilbara, I had a meeting with the City
of Karratha, Mr Adams and the deputy mayor, Mr Grant Cucel. I advised them that
my view was that they should seek to reach an agreement with Woodside to allow
for Browse gas to come onshore. That is my view. I advised them that there have
been three occasions in the last 15 years when major programs have not occurred
in Western Australia onshore and that has lost us jobs and opportunities as a state
and that is Prelude and Inpex and Browse 1 at James Price Point. As Premier of
the state, I do not intend to follow that record of losing projects for this
state.
