ELECTORAL ACT — REFORM
756. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Does the Premier really think that passing this copyright bill is something
that Western Australians are clamouring for?

AnswerView source ↗

I think everyone is clamouring for
democratic integrity in our system. Imagine if someone decided to register
themselves as the Regional National Party and wanted their name on the ballot
paper to be the Nationals Regional Party. This is an opportunity to make sure
that people are not able to rort the system.
Mr R.S. Love interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please!
Mr R.H. COOK : This is also
about transparency, integrity and accountability. We ask this question of the
Leader of the Opposition: will he go into a coalition with the Liberal
Party in the event that the Liberal Party refuses to wind back the gun law
reforms that we brought through this chamber? I want to draw the attention of
the chamber to an article in today's Bunbury Herald , which
states that the Leader of the National Party, Mr Love, said —
''If the Nationals and
Liberals together are in a position to form government, then a condition to
that government would be that we disallow the regulations which surround the
Firearms Act so that we can go back to the drawing board,''
The SPEAKER : Premier, can I just
give some advice on this. This is a response to a supplementary question. You
really have diverted from the supplementary. More leniency is given in
answering the original question; there is no leniency in a supplementary. I ask
you to not continue in that vein.
Mr R.H. COOK : I will simply
ask a question of the chamber. We are here to improve the integrity of our
system. Is that something that we want to
do? I want the Leader of the Liberal Party to answer this question: if the only
way that members opposite can form government is for the Liberal Party
to form a coalition with the Nationals, will the
Liberal Party, with the Nationals, wind back our gun law reform? That, Madam
Speaker, is about accountability . That is about transparency. It is time
that the Leader of the Liberal Party was transparent on these matters.
