STATE IRON ORE INDUSTRY POLICY 31. Hon ANTHONY FELS to the Minister for Mines and Petroleum: (1) Does the state of Western Australia or the Barnett government have any policy in relation to the state iron ore industry? (2) If so, will the minister table any or all of the iron policy and/or policies; and, if so, when? Hon NORMAN MOORE

AnswerView source ↗

(1)-(2) I have not had any notice of the question, so I am hardly able to table anything. I would have come prepared to table something if the member had given me some notice of the question. There is an iron ore policy. It has been around for many, many years, as the member is aware. Indeed, I understand the member has proposed a motion to set up a select committee to investigate that, which is his prerogative. We all know a bit of the history of iron ore policy and select committees, which I will not go into now. Indeed, I suspect that there will be more about that in due course. So far as the member’s question is concerned, the government will continue to support the iron ore policy until it makes a decision to change it.
