TRANSPORT
INDUSTRY — RED TAPE REDUCTION
988. Mr G.M. CASTRILLI to the
Minister for Transport:
Can the minister
please update the house on the Liberal–National government's
efforts to assist the Western Australian transport industry in realising time
efficiencies?

AnswerView source ↗

As part of our
ongoing red tape reduction, the one-stop-shop continues to make dealing with
government easier for the transport industry in Western Australia. The
one-stop-shop has resulted in reduced application and processing times, which
are now generally a 24-hour turnaround time compared with the eastern states,
which experience five-day minimum turnaround times. We have a dedicated team of
transport escort wardens, with the majority of traffic escort service bookings
made within two to three days. Previously, some operators had to wait two to
three months for this level of service. I refer to the establishment of the
heavy vehicle services help desk for the transport industry. The one-stop-shop
is a special business unit within Main Roads that operates on a cost-recovery
business model and is overseen by an independent advisory committee. The
one-stop-shop assists industry and government to unlock efficiencies, while
ensuring people and freight move safely across Western Australia's road
network. Main Roads proposes further process improvements within the
one-stop-shop with the physical collocation of both Horizon Power and Western Power's
high-load scheduling teams in the one-stop-shop. In addition, Main Roads'
online system moves, unless the transport industry self-serves, at any time of
day and night.

Mr D.C. NALDER : I am looking at the member for Mandurah!

The SPEAKER : Thank you, member for Mandurah.
Mr D.C. NALDER : Operators can apply online for permits and
request and pay for traffic escorts. This government is committed to regulation
and red tape reduction for the freight industry, and I have much pleasure in
informing the house of these matters today.
