(a) As announced jointly by the Premier and the Minister on 15 December 2010, the Government's strategy is to stimulate a private/government response to replace the existing Boyanup saleyards, presently operated by the Western Australian Livestock Salesmen's Association.
The Department of Agriculture and Food in consultation with the Department of Treasury and Finance will oversee an appropriate market sounding and Request for Proposal process for the Boyanup saleyards.
(b) No sites have been selected.
(c) It is expected that parties who respond to the Request for Proposal will nominate potential sites in their submissions. The State Government does not intend to be prescriptive about sites, except to ensure that any relocation of the Boyanup saleyards meets the future needs of the Western Australian cattle industry.
(d) Following the market sounding and Request for Proposal process the Minister will report back to Cabinet with options for replacing the existing Boyanup saleyards.
(e) State Cabinet has approved total funding for the Regional Livestock Saleyard Strategy of $21.5 million which includes provision of up to $2.2 million to stimulate a private/government response to replace the existing Boyanup saleyards.
A decision will be made by the end of the year.
