NOT-FOR-PROFIT SECTOR
179. Mr
A. KRSTICEVIC to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Given that we are in a state of emergency and on a warlike footing, why have
tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions, of additional funding not been
unlocked for the not-for-profit sector to help establish food and medical
warehousing and distribution to manage this impending tsunami of need right
across Western Australia?

I
do not want to make the shortfalls in the supermarkets worse or send a message
that encourages people to panic buy.
Mr A. Krsticevic : What about
Foodbank?
The SPEAKER : Member for
Carine, you had your go.
Mr
M. McGOWAN : That is why the
member needs to be careful about what he says in here. Saying things like that shows that he is spreading alarmist and panicking rhetoric. The member has a responsibility
as an elected member of Parliament. The member for Carine is a leader in the
community—as incredible as that is. He is a leader in the community.
All MPs—there are 59 of us in this house and 36 in the other house—have
a responsibility to be careful and responsible at this time. This is a crisis,
the likes of which we have never seen before, and we all have to be careful
with our language and what we propose. In the era of social media, suggestions
that are unreasonable suddenly get currency. All I would say to the member is:
be careful and responsible in what you say in here and outside here.
