Schools—Coloured sands
1084. Hon Phil Twiss to
the Leader of the House representing the
Minister for Education:
I refer to the
Premier's public comments on 17 November that 76 WA schools have reported
finding the coloured sand products that are the subject of an Australian
Competition and Consumer Commission recall on their premises.
(1) Will the minister table the list of 76
schools?
(2) Have any further schools been identified?
(3) If yes to (2), can the minister please table a
list of those schools?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) This is an emerging issue, with
the Department of Education continuing to monitor reports from schools with
coloured sand on their premises. This may include sand that is not subject to
the ACCC recall as an extra precaution. Public schools have been required to
alert parents or carers to the product recall advice and communicate if there
are coloured sand products on their child's school site. Communications and
advice have also been shared with Catholic Education WA and the Association of
Independent Schools of WA. If the honourable member places the question on
notice requesting a list of schools that have disposed of coloured sand
products in the future, the minister will endeavour to provide a response.
