LOGGING — TRANSITION PACKAGE
29. Hon
STEVE MARTIN to the Minister for Forestry:
I refer to the native forestry
transition plan.
(1) How many
businesses have shut down as a result of the government's decision to
ban native hardwood harvesting?
(2) How many businesses have applied for payment as
part of the support packages announced by the government?
(3) How many
businesses have received payment as part of the support packages?
(4) Has the
transition group identified new industry opportunities in the south west; and,
if so, what are they?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) One business
has terminated its contract with the Forest Products Commission. I am not aware
of any businesses that have shut down.
(2) Twenty-four
have applied through the business transition programs.
(3) Twenty-four
have received payment through the business transition programs.
(4) The native
forest transition group was formed to provide advice on the establishment and
delivery of the $80 million native forestry transition plan.
