BUURABALAYJI THALANYJI ABORIGINAL CORPORATION —
MATTHEW SLACK —LABOR PARTY DONATION
63. Mr V.A. CATANIA to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Considering that
Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation no longer has money to help its
members who are suffering serious health problems, does the Premier think it is
right to keep donations made by the former CEO?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members!

The Leader of the Nationals WA, the member for North West Central
and a Liberal Party member have raised these matters. I have answered the
question to the best of my abilities. I am aware, because it has been published
in the media, that during the course of last year some issues were raised
concerning a former member of Parliament and the Buurabalayji Thalanyji
Aboriginal Corporation—that is, Mr Brendon Grylls. There are serious
allegations that he was involved in efforts to bribe people in the Thalanyji
corporation. Mr Grylls obviously received some sort of payments from BTAC and—according
to these newspaper articles in The Australian —has been involved
in efforts to bribe members who are opposed to the management of BTAC. That is
what these articles say. If the member for North West Central has concerns
about the behaviour of people, perhaps he can start with the former Leader of
the National Party and ask whether or not he is going to —
Mr V.A. Catania : What about your backyard?
The SPEAKER : Member for North West Central! I call you
to order for the first time.
Mr M. McGOWAN : He should ask whether or not the former
Leader of the National Party, whom he supported and ensured came back to the
leadership —
Mr V.A. Catania interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for North West Central! I call you
to order for the second time.
Mr M. McGOWAN : The member does not like this, does he?
Does he want me to read out the article for him?
Mr V.A. Catania interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for North West Central! I call you
to order for the third time.
Mr M. McGOWAN : The former Leader of the National Party
is alleged to have been involved in efforts to bribe members of the Thalanyji corporation. If the member for North West
Central is concerned about people paying back money, perhaps he can go to his former leader, who he ensured knocked
off the member for Warren–Blackwood, and seek to understand
whether or not he is going to repay any payments he has received, if he is
going to be consistent.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members!
Mr M. McGOWAN : The National Party is up to its neck in
these sorts of matters because its former leader has been involved. So, if they
have questions about this sort of matter, go and follow up with the National
Party exactly what it has been up to.
