GRAIN RAIL NETWORK — REVIEW
596. Hon DARREN WEST to the
minister representing the Minister for Regional Development:
(1) Does the
National Party intend to honour its election promise to hold an independent
review to provide advice on further investment in the grain rail network?
(2) If yes to (1), when does the minister expect the review to
commence?
(3) If no to (1), what action has the minister taken to try
to have the review implemented?
(4) What
action will the minister take to ensure the tier 3 rail lines remain open until
the completion of this review?
The PRESIDENT : Minister for Agriculture and Food,
there is one section of that question that asks what a political party intends
to do. It is not for a minister to answer a question in relation to what a
political party is going to do; it is in terms of what the government is going
to do.

Thank you, Mr President.
I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1)–(4)
This election commitment is contained within the ''Seizing the
Opportunity'' agricultural election commitment that has now been adopted
by the Liberal–National government. Work is currently underway to
determine the parameters of the state infrastructure audit and the
infrastructure investment fund. Further details of these initiatives will be
announced following the government's consideration.
