Methane emissions
119. Hon Sophie McNeill to the minister
representing the Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I refer to the
global methane pledge that aims to collectively reduce global methane emissions
across all sectors by at least 30% below 2020 levels by 2030. I note that
Australia signed this pledge in October 2022.
(1) What steps have been taken by the
state government in the last three years to ensure a reduction of methane
emissions by WA's LNG industry?
(2) Can the minister please table the
most up-to-date data on methane emissions from the WA LNG industry and, if not,
why not?
(3) Can the
minister please table any projections on the WA LNG industry's future methane
emissions and, if not, why not?
The President: Wow! Super standing order 105, for a
number of reasons, including seeking a significant volume of information and being
a wideranging open-ended question. I will see if the minister has an answer.
