I refer to the Department of State Development Browse LNG precinct, and ask -
(1) Can the Minister advise whether geo-sequestration is possible at the James Price Point location?
(2) Is the Minister aware that the air pollution study released by the Department of State Development is based on the assumption that geo-sequestration will occur?
(3) If yes to (2), is the Minister aware that if geo-sequestration does not occur, then the air pollution impacts on the Broome community will be much greater than the study has advised?
(4) If geo-sequestration is not possible at James Price Point, what steps will be taken by the Government to neutralise the carbon footprint of the Browse LNG Precinct?

Department of State Development advises:
(1) The Browse Joint Venture is undertaking an assessment of possible geosequestration sites in the vicinity of the Browse LNG Precinct. This assessment is expected to be completed this year.
(2) There is no assumption that geosequestration will occur in any air modelling study released by the Department of State Development.
(3) Not applicable.
(4) The Strategic Assessment Report proposes that project proponents be required to prepare a Greenhouse Gas Abatement Plan, and the Plan be subject to public review prior to finalisation. The Greenhouse Gas Abatement Plan would include an evaluation of options for sequestration or other carbon capture methods.
