EDUCATION — ABORIGINAL STUDENTS—
OUTCOMES
1219. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for Education:
(1) What local school targets have been set to date in 2015
to improve outcomes for Aboriginal students?
(2) Is there any central oversight or reporting back on
success or otherwise of those local schools' targets?

AnswerView source ↗

(1) Local
school targets are different for every school. School targets are a requirement
of schools in their school plans, and for independent schools in their business
plans. Within each school, targets are set for year-level cohorts and for
targeted groups, including Aboriginal students. Business plans are published
online and school plans are available on request from individual schools.
(2) Central
oversight of school performance is achieved through the school performance
monitoring system, which monitors key data sets for every school at a
whole-school population level, as well as disaggregated by Aboriginality. On
the basis of monitoring, decisions are taken on whether further review is
needed. This includes analysis of national assessment data on student
performance, including for Aboriginal students. Schools are also required to
report and publish an annual school report, which includes progress on
individual school priorities and targets, on Schools Online.
