SCHOOLS — FUNDING MODEL
816. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to question without notice 764 and to the minister's
assertion that Belmont City College will likely be able to employ additional
staff in 2015 following funding changes, rather than lose support staff.
(1) Does the
minister expect that these additional staff will be over and above the levels
required to provide for incoming year 7 students?
(2) Does the
minister expect the ratio of staff members to students to improve in 2015
following the $250 000 of funding changes?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1)–(2)
The student to teacher ratio and choices regarding staff profile and number of
staff will depend on the resource decisions made at the school level. With the
additional funding Belmont City College will receive in 2015, it has an
opportunity to implement a number of strategies. These may include redesigning
school staffing profiles or adjusting the timetable to ensure the available
resources are used most effectively while guaranteeing industrial and
legislative requirements, including class sizes, are met.
