Hon Ben Dawkins asks about the number of miscarriages recorded in WA from 2017-2023, and how the Minister would be aware of any issues if data isn't readily available. The Minister responds that no centralised collection exists, but the Minister would be briefed if the Department of Health was aware of an alarming increase.

I refer to the number of miscarriages recorded in Western
Australia, and I ask: (a) what was the total number of miscarriages recorded in
Western Australia in each calendar year from 2017 to 2023 (most recent
available data); and (b) if this headline data is not readily available,
how does the Minister know if there is an issue relating to miscarriages in

a) No centralised collection exists from which the number of miscarriages could be accurately determined.
b) The Minister for Health would be briefed if the Department of Health was aware of an alarming increase in the number of miscarriages presenting to our facilities, particularly if they were for a specific adverse issue.
