I refer to Recommendation 13 of Report 12, of the Standing Committee on Estimates and Financial Operations into the Balga Works Program, where it stated, ‘The Committee recommends that the Government provide assistance and support in the form of a debriefing and counselling to the people affected by the Balga Works Program and that in six months time the Government report back to the Legislative Council on its actions’, and ask -
(1) Have you instructed the Department of Education and Training to provide assistance and support in the form of a debriefing and counselling to the people affected by the Balga Works Program and that in six months time the Government report back to the Legislative Council on its actions?
(2) If yes to (1), will you table the report at the next day’s sitting as required given that six months have now passed?
(3) If no to (2), given that the Minister for Training was a member of this committee and supported the recommendation and now has the power to implement it, why not?

On 14 November 2008, I provided to Parliament the Department of Education and Training response ('Response') to Report 12 : Balga Works Program ('Report') of the Standing Committee on Estimates and Financial Operations ('Committee'). The Response was tabled on 25 November 2008, Tabled Paper 345.
On 5 March 2009 and 30 March 2009, the Director General of Education and Training and other officers of the Department appeared before the Committee to answer questions about the Response ('Hearings'). The Hearings were recorded by Hansard and a transcript of the Hearings is available on the Parliamentary Website for the Committee under Miscellaneous Proceedings ('Transcripts').
The Tabled Paper and Transcripts address the Member's questions.
