I ask this question on behalf of Hon George Cash, who has been called away on urgent parliamentary business. (1) Does the Department of Health intend to close the store at Wyndham District Hospital and move it to Kununurra; and, if so, when and why? (2) Does the Department of Health intend to close the palliative care beds at Wyndham District Hospital and relocate them to Kununurra District Hospital; and, if so, when and why? Hon SUE ELLERY

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes. The Kimberley health region is centralising supply in the east Kimberley to achieve savings and minimise stock handling. Kununurra will become the principal supply point. This is part of the region’s commitment to a single supply line and cost centre. It will be completed within the month. (2) There are no designated palliative care beds at Wyndham District Hospital. However, work has begun on a new purpose-built aged care facility in Kununurra. The new facility will meet commonwealth aged care standards and will provide a better residential environment for both Wyndham and Kununurra aged care residents. The project will be completed in the next six to nine months.
