AGRICULTURE —
PRIMED PROJECT
1054. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the Minister for Agriculture and
Food:
I refer to the PRIMED project, which
was first announced by the government in May 2019.
(1) Has the PRIMED project
concluded; and, if so, on what date?
(2) Has an evaluation report been
completed; and if so, will the minister please table the report?
(3) Will the government continue
funding the PRIMED project?
(4) If no to (3), how will the government ensure
students continue to receive education about primary industries?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) Yes, the project concluded on 30
June 2024.
(2) An independent evaluation report has been received
and is subject to consideration by the Departments of Education,
Training and Workforce Development and Primary Industries and Regional
Development.
(3) The PRIMED
project was a $5 million education initiative designed as a collaboration with
industry to attract secondary students to future careers in primary industries.
Industry partners ultimately decided not to participate in the project and no
further government funding will be committed at this stage.
(4) T he evaluation and outcomes of the PRIMED project
will guide future activities, noting government undertakes a range of
initiatives to educate students on primary industries, including a presence at
regional agricultural shows, the Royal Show, the Innovation Challenge at the
Robotics Playoffs and career expos.
