Opposition questions the Premier regarding a potential breach of a ban on dealings with Noel Crichton-Browne by the Minister for Mines and Petroleum, and whether the Minister tabled a petition on Crichton-Browne's behalf. The Premier denies knowledge of the petition and clarifies the ban applies to professional, not personal, contact.

MINISTER FOR MINES AND PETROLEUM — NOEL CRICHTON-BROWNE
(1) Is the Premier aware that the Minister for Mines and Petroleum, Hon Norman Moore, has breached the Premier’s ban on dealing with Liberal powerbroker and lobbyist Noel Crichton-Browne? (2) Can the Premier advise the house in what capacity Minister Norman Moore, member for the Mining and Pastoral Region, tabled a petition in the Legislative Council praying for relief for Noel Crichton-Browne? Mr C.J. BARNETT

(1)-(2) I am not aware of a petition being tabled in the Legislative Council. If the member opposite can provide me with details, I might be in a position to look at that. On the minister’s contact with Noel Crichton-Browne, I think Noel Crichton-Browne may well have been the best man at the minister’s wedding probably 40 years ago. They are lifelong and childhood friends. I do not intend to ban people from personal contact with friends. However, on his professional responsibility as a minister and a member of this government, he is not to have contact with Noel Crichton-Browne.
