JUVENILE OFFENDERS —
MONITORING
483. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Minister for Education and
Training:
I refer to the minister's
response to my question without notice 375 concerning sharing information
between agencies about reportable sex offenders under the age of 18 who attend
school, in which the minister stated —
Information is shared when students
move from one public school to another.
(1) Is information also shared if
the student's movement involves a non-public school?
(2) If yes to
(1), is the information shared the same irrespective of whether the movement
involves a public or non-public school?
(3) If no to (2), what is the
difference?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes.
(2) No.
(3) The
department confirms on a daily basis the enrolment status of each student in a public
school subject to the multi-agency protocols for students charged with harmful
sexual behaviours. When a student moves from one public school to another,
information is shared. Catholic Education Western Australia schools share
relevant academic and pastoral care notes regarding students when they transfer
to another CEWA school, including
information in respect of a student with harmful sexual behaviours. Arrangements are slightly different for independent non-government schools as they are not a
system, as the honourable member would be aware. The chair of an Association of
Independent Schools of Western Australia school is permitted to share that
information with the Department of Education—a prescribed authority—and
for the department to subsequently share that information with the chair of the
receiving school.
