SOUTH COAST MARINE PARK —
PROPOSED DRAFT ZONING SCHEME
337. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Fisheries:
I refer to the proposed south coast
marine park.
(1) Has the
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development completed an
assessment of the impact on the commercial and recreational fishing sectors of
the proposed sanctuary zones submitted for consideration by the community
reference committee at its final meeting?
(2) If yes to (1), did the
assessment identify any of the following —
(a) a loss of livelihood and
viability for commercial fishers;
(b) a risk that entire fisheries
would be rendered unviable;
(c) impacts to regional development
opportunities across the broader economy;
(d) a reduction in social and
community amenity; and
(e) that the commercial and
recreational fishing sectors would suffer losses?

I
thank the member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been
provided by the Minister for Fisheries.
(1) The
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has provided advice
on the proposed draft zoning scheme and candidate areas for potential sanctuary
protection for the south coast marine park.
Feedback from the community reference committee and sector advisory groups on
the candidate areas at the final meeting will form part of the ongoing
consultation process for the south coast marine park.
(2) The proposed draft zoning scheme, including
candidate areas for sanctuary protection and possible impacts on
fishing, is not finalised and is subject to further public consultation.
