I refer to revelations that the Premier’s most senior spin doctor is being moved sideways to undertake, in the Premier’s own words, “new responsibilities”. (1) Will the Premier confirm reports that a new and senior position has been created within the Office of the Premier or Department of the Premier and Cabinet to accommodate his former media adviser? (2) What is the role, title and public service level of this new position and what salary and other benefits will the position attract? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. Notwithstanding that the question probably fails the standing orders test, the Gallop Government, as always, will be open and accountable and will overlook the breach of standing orders on this occasion. (1) No new position has been created. A decision has been made to reactivate the strategic management position previously established in the Office of Premier. (2) These matters have yet to be finalised and will be subject to consideration by the ministerial merit panel.
