WOMEN'S REFUGE — BUSSELTON
168. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
minister representing the Minister for Housing:
(1) Was an
independent valuation and inspection report carried out on the Churchill Park
Guest House in Busselton before it was purchased for use as a women's
refuge; and, if so, who carried out the inspection?
(2) Did the report identify
hazardous material at the site; and, if so, will the minister table the report?
(3) Who carried
out the subsequent post-purchase inspection that led to the government
abandoning the site as a women's refuge and will the minister table
that subsequent report?
(4) Has the building been
demolished?
(5) What was the cost of purchasing a new site for the women's
refuge?

I thank the member for some notice of the question. The
Department of Housing advises —
(1) Yes; Houspect Building Inspections.
(2)–(3) Due
to the level of detailed information required for these parts of the question,
the department is unable to provide the information in the time available and
therefore I ask the honourable member to place these parts of the question on
notice and I will endeavour to provide a detailed response.
(4) Yes; demolition of the building is complete and the final
site clean-up is underway.
(5) The cost of it was $765 000.
