MIDLAND HEALTH CAMPUS — CATHOLIC CHURCH ETHOS
361. Hon
ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the answer to question on notice 5155 in which it
is stated that any services such as contraception, termination and
sterilisation that cannot be provided by St John of God Health Care as a Catholic
healthcare provider will be delivered by other service providers at the new
health campus.
(1) Will these
service providers be publicly funded?
(2) Has an
alternative contraception, termination and sterilisation service provider for
the Midland health campus been identified?
(3) If yes to
(2), who is the preferred respondent?
(4) If no to (2),
when will a service provider be selected?
(5) Can the
minister confirm that there is a suitable location within the campus that will
be set aside for these services?
(6) Will these
services be continuously available throughout the transfer from Swan District
Hospital to the Midland health campus?

I thank the member for some notice of this question.
(1) Those
services that are required to be provided in the hospital setting will continue
to be publicly funded.
(2) No; at this
stage an alternative provider for these services has not been identified.
(3) Not
applicable.
(4) The
Department of Health will commence the service planning for the provision of
these services in the near future.
I might add that this question was asked on 17 May.
Hon Alison Xamon : I asked it in estimates but I did
not get all the information I was seeking.
Hon HELEN MORTON : I imagine this has moved on a bit
since 17 May is perhaps what I am saying.
Hon Alison Xamon : Some of it was answered but not all
of it.
Hon HELEN MORTON : The Department of Health will
commence the service planning for the provision of these services in the near
future. When this is completed, a provider will be selected that will ensure
that provider best meets the service requirements. I continue —
(5) Yes.
(6) Yes. Any
services that are required to be provided from Swan District Hospital and the
wider Swan Kalamunda Health Service will continue to be provided until the opening of the Midland health campus.
