Given the government announcement on 15 February that another 100 schools would join the $64.5 million behaviour management and discipline strategy, I ask - (1) Are any schools within the City of Joondalup or the City of Wanneroo part of this program? (2) If so, which schools? (3) What does the program entail? (4) When will it be introduced into each of the schools mentioned in (1)? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes. (2) Heathridge Primary School, Belridge Senior High School, Craigie Primary School, Wanneroo High School, Neerabup Primary School, Yanchep District High School, Clarkson Community High School, Clarkson Primary School, Merriwa Primary School, Quinns Beach Primary School, Girrawheen Senior High School, Blackmore Primary School, Hainsworth Primary School, Montrose Primary School, Girrawheen Primary School, Koondoola Primary School, Waddington Primary School, Marangaroo Primary School and Rawlinson Primary School. (3) The goal of the behaviour management and discipline strategy is the ongoing development of safer and more positive learning environments in government schools. The outcomes for students will be the improved behaviour of students with challenging and disruptive behaviours, increased school attendance by students and participation of students in schooling, and a safer school. The outcomes for teachers will be an increase in the competence and confidence of teachers in managing student behaviour. (4) Clarkson Community High School and Girrawheen Senior High School have been involved in the program since 2001. All other schools became involved in the program for the 2005 school year. I place on record that this is an excellent program because it moves away from a one-size-fits-all approach to dealing with behaviour management and discipline issues. The beauty of the program is that it enables school communities to come up with a range of strategies to deal with behaviour management at the local level. It recognises the individuality of, or differences in, school communities and, therefore, responds locally to issues.
