LIVE EXPORT — ANIMALS' ANGELS —
FREMANTLE PORT AUTHORITY ACCESS
471. Hon RICK MAZZA to the Minister for Agriculture and
Food:
I refer to an article in the 31 May
edition of Farm Weekly regarding the minister's decision to
forward to the Minister for Transport a request from Animals' Angels to
be allowed access to Fremantle port.
(1) What is the status of this
German-based animal activist group in Australia?
(2) What due
diligence was performed on the status of Animals' Angels regarding the
capacity and qualifications of observers prior to them being given access to
livestock export activities?
(3) Are Animals' Angels
observers paid employees or volunteers?
(4) Has the minister received any
complaints about Animals' Angels being given observer status?
(5) To whom will
Animals' Angels report on its observations?
(6) How will Animals' Angels
imagery be used, by whom and for what purpose?
(7) Is the
minister aware of media reports that in 2008 Animals' Angels took the
commonwealth's department of agriculture to court for failing to
suspend the licence of a Perth-based international livestock exporter?
