2. No 3. Not applicable. 4. Cabinet agreed to a broad strategic framework to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on 18 August 2001. The Premier made a Statement in the Legislative Assembly outlining the Governments strategic framework on 29 August 2001. This strategic framework has 4 pillars: Emissions Reduction, Sequestration, Development of New Industries, and Adaptation to climate change. The Government is currently implementing this strategic framework. Government has developed the sequestration and adaptation sections of the strategy and has initiated consultation with key stakeholders. Government has also developed a strategy for the Emissions Reduction and I have now established a Taskforce to work with industry and community to agree on how to achieve emission reductions for Western Australia and how to take advantage of the new industry opportunities that greenhouse policies provide the State. The taskforce, headed by Fran Logan MLA will work to: 1. Identify and encourage creative actions and projects to reduce Greenhouse emissions. 2. Position WA on greenhouse in regional, State, National and International contexts. 3. Put Western Australia in a competitive position nationally on this issue. 4. Develop productive relationships with Industry. 5. Coordinate the activities of government in reducing emissions. 6. Ensure these activities are consistent with government policies and other key strategies eg Sustainability. They will do this by: 1. Building on the work of the WA Greenhouse Council (2000) and the work done by Government to date. 2. Engaging industry and community through a process of preparatory questions, panel interviews and public forums. 3. Using a combination of planned projects, case studies and facilitated process to achieve a WA position on Emissions.
