I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Following the release of the discussion paper in May 1998 on the Associations Incorporation Act, extensive public consultation was undertaken. Advertisements were placed in The West Australian and the public was invited to comment on the 17 proposals for amendment contained in the discussion paper. Fifty-three submissions were received. The Department of Consumer and Employment Protection has analysed all the proposals and submissions received and is currently drafting a report of its findings. (2) Prior to the introduction of an amending Bill into Parliament, the minister will consider the findings and recommendations of the report. It is currently intended that the public will also be invited to comment on a draft Bill prior to the preparation of a final Bill. (3) The Government intends to introduce an amending Bill into Parliament as soon as possible after completion of all relevant consultation.
