Health—Code yellow alerts
352. Mr David Bolt to
the Minister for Health:
I have a
supplementary question. Are the Premier's comments on code yellows just another
example that the minister's government is focused more on spin than real
solutions to fix our hospital crisis?

I just totally
reject the premise of that supplementary. That is why we are doing a range of
things right across the health system, including the announcement this week of
an additional $50 million to go into maintenance into Sir Charles Gairdner
Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital and the Armadale Health Service. That is just
this week's announcement.
As the member knows
and as I have said in this place many times, we are doing a range of things not
just to address issues in hospitals but to change models of care so that people
can get access to the care they need in the community and closer to home. We
are looking at all the ways we can support people as they age, once again, in
the community and closer to home, and at all the ways we can strengthen our
primary healthcare network and do things differently in relation to pharmacists
as well. We are looking at a whole range of things right across the health
system to make sure people get access to the health care that they need. As I
have said before, and I will continue to say, we will keep looking at what more
we can do because Labor governments believe in the importance of delivering
health care for the people of Western Australia. We understand that health care
is a fundamental part of our DNA. We understand that health care is important
for everyday people in Western Australia. We are committed to delivering better
access—

Ms Meredith Hammat: They do not like it, do they?
The Speaker: Members.
Ms Meredith Hammat: We are committed to delivering
access to the health care people need no matter where they live in this great
state. That is why we are delivering record investments in health and why we
will continue to look at what more we can do, because it is only ever Labor
governments that take health care for Western Australians seriously.
The Speaker: That concludes question time.
