FORRESTFIELD–AIRPORT
LINK — COSTINGS
946. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to questions without notice 922 and 933 regarding the
airport rail line.
(1) Who provided the cost of rolling stock to the member for
Forrestfield?
(2) Why is the unescalated cost of railcars significantly
cheaper than the current cost of railcars?
(3) Can the
Minister for Transport confirm that the $2.2 billion estimated cost of the
airport rail line includes only a $73 million unescalated cost for railcars and
buses; and, if not, how much is included?
(4) Where will
the 24 C series railcars to be purchased for the airport line be stored,
cleaned and maintained?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) It was the government.
(2) It is
based on advice from industry regarding acquisition costs in other
jurisdictions using international suppliers.
(3) Yes.
(4) The C
series railcar purchase allows the B series railcars currently in operation to
be cascaded to operate on the Forrestfield–Airport Link. Various
options are being considered for storage, cleaning and maintenance and these
will be determined at a future time when the C series railcar order is
progressed.
