(1) I refer to the Premier’s remarks in the
Southern Gazette
of 24 July in which he is reported to have said that the Government believes traffic from the southern suburbs which passes through South Perth to the city each day will be significantly reduced by the rail link and ask has the Government commissioned a report, or does it already possess such a report, to support that view?
(2) If so, will the Premier table the report?

The projected extra patronage results from the significant timesavings from the direct route compared to the Kenwick option. The journey time from Thompson's Lake to Perth will reduce from 28 minutes to 16 minutes, Rockingham to Perth from 45 minutes to 33 minutes, and Mandurah to Perth from 60 minutes to 48 minutes. It is known that improved journey times and increased frequency of services will result in increased patronage. The original patronage demand modelling underpinning the patronage forecasts revealed that the elasticity of demand to changes in journey times is in the range of 0.54 – 0.63. This means if there is an improvement in frequency and journey time of 10% there would be an increase in patronage of 5.4% to 6.3%. A Supplementary Master Plan is currently being prepared. Further modelling will be carried out as part of this study. (2) The original South West Metropolitan Railway Master Plan is already a public document. When completed and approved by Government the Supplementary Master Plan will be released as a public document.
