POLICE — RETURN
TO PRISON WARRANTS
1005. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer, after more than a year of
parliamentary questioning, to the public release of information on 19 offenders
who remain the subject of return to prison warrants.
(1) Has any
information been received from the public about any of those offenders since
their details were disclosed by WA police through the media on Saturday, 7
September 2024?
(2) What is the total number of return to prison warrants
currently outstanding?
(3) Will the minister release the same level of information
about the remaining fugitives?
(4) If no to (3), what criteria have been applied to
determine that Western Australians should have information on only 19
fugitives, but not the remainder?
(5) Further to
(4), will the minister table a section 82 notice under the Financial Management
Act so that the Auditor General may inquire into this ongoing non-provision of
information to Parliament?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. The Western Australia Police Force advises the following.
(1) Yes.
(2) There are 41.
(3)–(5)
It is entirely appropriate that the Commissioner of Police and the WA Police
Force determine the level of information and timeframes that are publicly
released.
