I am advised by the Department of Education as follows:
Over $265 000 of State funding has been spent on maintenance and improvements at South Thornlie Primary School over the last three and a half years, including over $160 000 on faults and $33 000 on routine maintenance. A further $50 000 was provided through the Federal
National Solar Schools
program.
Major works undertaken include replacement of gas heaters at a cost of almost $64 000, a new irrigation pump and control cubicle costing almost $18 000 and relocation of a new transportable classroom to the school.
Maintenance spending for 2009, 2010 and 2011 is as follows:
2009 - $57 317
2010 - $133 999
2011 - $53 312
(a),(c),(d) and (e) Funding is provided to address urgent maintenance and minor works such as faults, occupational safety and health matters, routine maintenance and universal access works, as needed. Restoration maintenance is prioritised and addressed as funding allows.
(b) Shade sails are not provided to schools by the Department of Education due to their vulnerability to wilful damage. Schools may choose to install shade sails but their purchase, installation and ongoing maintenance are the responsibility of the school.
