NATIONAL ACTION PLAN ON SALINITY AND WATER QUALITY
I note the minister’s recent trip to Hobart to discuss the national action plan and Natural Heritage Trust 2 and a report I heard on ABC radio on Monday morning that, although our Government had failed to sign the agreement in Hobart, the minister hoped that matters would be resolved in Cabinet last Monday. Will the minister please report to the House whether matters have been resolved and whether he expects to sign the agreement very shortly? If not, when will the matters be resolved? Hon KIM CHANCE

The member places me in some difficulty because the first part of the question asks directly what happened in Cabinet. I am, therefore, required to give the standard statement that I cannot reveal that information. However, it is an answer I very much want to give the member, and that is why I am in some difficulty. The best I can offer the member is that I believe the situation regarding the signing of the intergovernmental agreement on the national action plan for salinity and water quality is positive, and I expect that the Prime Minister and the Premier will sign that document in the near future. I cannot tell the member exactly when because I do not know. However, I expect it to be within days rather than weeks.
