(1) I am advised there is no statutory requirement for the periodic inspection of toilets in schools. Toilet blocks at schools are inspected every two years as a part of the building condition assessment process, but these are related to structural integrity, not health and hygiene.
(2) School cleaners are trained appropriately to ensure health and safety standards are maintained. Inspections are conducted by the school principal to ensure these standards are maintained.
(3) Environmental Services Officers from the Department of Education and Training's Facilities Operations Branch are available to visit schools and advise staff on hygiene related matters, and the correct methods to maintain hygiene standards.
