The Department of Communities advises:
(a) All specialist services funded by the Government are required to deliver supports underpinned by the principle of cultural safety. In practice, this means services must have culturally safe policies and procedures and provide access to safe spaces for cultural purposes, culturally appropriate staff and peers, opportunities to participate in cultural activities, and tools that reflect cultural needs.
The State Government funds Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to deliver refuge and healing services, and specialist CaLD services that provide in-language support, bicultural workers, and programs tailored to migrant and refugee communities.
These requirements are reinforced through system reform initiatives and strategic guidance, including:
· Strengthening Responses to Family and Domestic Violence System Reform Plan 2024 to 2029;
· Path to Safety: WA’s Strategy to Reduce Family and Domestic Violence 2020–2030; and the
· Aboriginal Family Safety Strategy 2022–2032 .
