A WA parliamentary question seeks data on road accident trauma patients transported from the South West region to Bunbury and Perth hospitals via ambulance, RAC helicopter, and Royal Flying Doctor Service between 2009-10 and 2012-13. The answer reveals limitations in data collection, preventing specific identification of crash locations within the South West region.

(1) It is not possible to identify the geographic location of a road crash using Department of Health (DOH) data collections. The response below includes data on all crashes transferred to Bunbury Regional Hospital (BRH) and not those specifically occurring in the South West (SW) region.
2009-10 - 121 patients were transported by ambulance to BRH, as a result of a road crash (occurring in any region).
2010-11 - 86 patients were transported by ambulance to BRH, as a result of a road crash (occurring in any region).
2011-12 - 117 patients were transported by ambulance to BRH, as a result of a road crash (occurring in any region).
Data for 2012-13 is not currently available.
(2) No patients were transported by helicopter to BRH following a road crash (occurring in any region) in 2009-10, 2010-11 or 2011-12.
Data for 2012-13 is not currently available.
(3) As the geographic location of a road crash cannot be identified using DOH data collections, it is not possible to determine how many people were transported by ambulance to a metropolitan hospital following a road crash in the SW region.
(4) As the geographic location of a road crash cannot be identified using DOH data collections, it is not possible to determine how many people were transported by helicopter to a metropolitan hospital following a road crash in the SW region.
(5) No patients were transported by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to BRH following a road crash (occurring in any region) in 2009-10, 2010-11 or 2011-12.
Data for 2012-13 is not currently available.
(6) As the geographic location of a road crash cannot be identified using DOH data collections, it is not possible to determine how many people were transported by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to a metropolitan hospital following a road crash in the SW region.
