Geraldton Health Campus—Radiation oncology unit
162. Ms Kirrilee Warr to the Minister for Health Infrastructure:
I refer to the WA Labor
government's commitment matching the Nationals WA's promise to deliver a
radiation oncology unit for Geraldton.
(1) Can the minister confirm whether the promised
radiation oncology unit will be incorporated into the Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment
or has the project progressed to a stage at which adding such infrastructure
would cause further delays?
(2) Noting the state government has been holding
onto $9 million in Commonwealth funding for this service since 2019, why has it
taken his government six years to take action on delivering what is a
life-saving service for people in the Mid West?

(1)–(2) I thank the member for the
question. I appreciate her highlighting the investment that this state
government is making into Geraldton Health Campus. It is significant and it
includes, of course, the establishment of a $21 million radiation oncology
service with a linear accelerator at the health campus funded by the state
government. Work on this project is progressing through project definition and planning and other parts. I say this: we are
resolutely committed to that project. As the Premier highlighted, it is in
addition to the massive construction project that is happening right now to
deliver an incredible transformation at Geraldton Health Campus. I note this
respectfully: only a Labor government makes these kinds of investments, as
demonstrated by Geraldton Health Campus.
Mr Roger Cook interjected.
The Speaker: Premier, thank you.
Mr Lachlan Hunter interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Central Wheatbelt.
