PLASTIC
BAGS — CITY OF FREMANTLE BAN
842. Ms S.F. McGURK to the Minister for Environment:
I have a supplementary question. When will the minister stand
up for the environment rather than allowing ideas from the 1950s to dominate
his thinking?

Mr Speaker, I heard —
Dr M.D. Nahan interjected.
Mr A.P. JACOB : I
was not; that was 30 years before my time, Treasurer! I caught some of those interjections.
Mr R.H. Cook : I
called you a joke.
Mr A.P. JACOB : The
member was calling democracy a joke.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Kwinana, I call you to order now for the second time; member for
Cannington for the third time; and member for Fremantle for the second time. We
have exactly one minute left of question time—a quick answer, please.
Mr A.P. JACOB : I
just find this a bizarre question—the idea that now, all of a sudden,
the Parliament should subvert itself to the government. I can see some
attractions in that, but the Legislative Council is free to make decisions as
it wishes.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : If
members want to have a constitutional argument, they should take it outside or
organise a seminar. A quick answer—sorry, that concludes question time.
