(1)–(2) Thank you, member for Swan Hills. I
thank the member. As she knows, this state government over eight years and now
the ninth year has been delivering strong financial management together with
strong economic growth. That combination has propelled Western Australia to be
the economic powerhouse of the nation, with record jobs growth. Despite the
global economic outlook and the global headwinds, we have been able to make
sure that Western Australia is the best place to live in this nation. There is
job growth and cost-of-living support. We have seen the resilience of the WA
economy, sustained business growth, sustained consumption growth and higher
than national figures when it comes to retail trade, and around the state we
continue to invest in our economy. Do members know what that means? It means
jobs and opportunities for our young people. It means that we continue to have
the lowest unemployment and the strongest average weekly earnings. We have been
able to deliver strong financial management and strong economic growth.
We know that the times are
uncertain. Over the past three months we have seen global economic shock after
global economic shock. That is why we continue to make sure we have jobs and
the economy as our central focus. Of course, we have also been able to deliver
record cost-of-living relief. We have the student assistance payment—a
payment that the opposition said should not have been distributed. That has
been distributed around the state. We have unveiled a number of new measures,
including the new battery subsidy program together
with the no-interest loan. That is about making sure that up to 100,000 Western Australians get permanent power cost relief. That is an incredible
initiative, and one that will deliver for future generations. Tomorrow's budget
will continue that theme: strong financial management, delivering on our commitments
and making sure we grow the economy. As we know, Western Australia is the
economic powerhouse of the nation, and we will continue to support measures to
make sure we can grow the economy and create jobs for Western Australians.
