NEW
CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL — CAPACITY
1. 476. Mr R.H. COOK to the
Minister for Health:
I refer to the minister's
answer during estimates on 21 August that he would be making a decision this
week on bed capacity for the new children's hospital in light of the
fact that the new hospital will provide only 20 more beds than the current
Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, which will lead to an ongoing shortage
of beds in Perth hospitals.
(1) Can the
minister confirm that an internal departmental report recommended increasing
the number of beds at the hospital?
(2) Will he add
the extra floors that have been called for by parents, medical staff and the
people of Western Australia?

(1)–(2) There
has been a lot of debate about the requirement for additional beds at the new
hospital. I am not confirming or denying anything that is contained in reports
from the health department because they will be considered by government and a
decision will be made based on the information that is available to us.
