CITY OF PERTH — COUNCILLORS — FREE
SPEECH POLICY
776. Mr D.A. TEMPLEMAN to the Minister
for Local Government:
I ask a supplementary question. When
will the minister act to ensure that the chaos that has now paralysed the City
of Perth is resolved, including the ridiculous time it has taken—now
over a year—to deal with the Corruption and Crime Commission findings
against the Lord Mayor?

The previous minister made it very clear in this house on
many occasions that after the CCC report, which was tabled last year—I
think in around October—the Department of Local Government then had its
investigation, which it had to do. The CCC did not allow the Department of
Local Government to use the information that it had gleaned through the report,
so it had to do a full-on investigation. When that investigation was done,
which took about —
Mr D.A. Templeman interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Mandurah, I call you for the third time. You decide whether you want
to stay or you want to go. It is up to you.
Mr P.T. MILES :
That took some six months or so to do. The Department of Local Government
through its processes decided which course of action to take in regard to the
Lord Mayor. It went to the State Administrative Tribunal. A hearing was had in
SAT.
Ms M.M. Quirk interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Girrawheen!
Mr P.T. MILES : A
hearing was had in SAT in July. Further discussions were had in the lead-up to
mediation, which is happening next week. Once the mediation happens between the
State Solicitor's Office and the department, and the Lord Mayor's
legal people, they will be able to obviously process it through further.
