CITY OF
VINCENT — TRANSPORT PLANNING — LOCAL GOVERNMENT REFORM
355. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. How
many other councils can expect retribution for not agreeing to and going along
quietly with the Premier's forced local government merger plan in the
way that he has threatened retribution against Vincent?

The Leader of the Opposition really
needs to grow up a little. What a foolish comment—retribution! It is a foolish
point of view. Retribution—absolute rubbish.
Mr
M. McGowan : It's what you said. Read what you said.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : This is just ridiculous stuff. Again I repeat: I believe the
City of Vincent missed a unique opportunity to be at the very heart of planning
and development of the central city area. It does find itself now, in a sense,
between a stronger and larger City of Perth and the City of Stirling. It is
wedged in the middle, as a small council. I do not think that is a good
position to be in, in terms of the broader development of metropolitan Perth.
