INNOVATION
CENTRE
358. Hon KATE DOUST to the
Minister for Commerce:
My question is without
notice. I refer to questions I have asked in the last two days about the
potential handover of the Innovation Centre to the management of the Chamber of
Commerce and Industry of Western Australia. If the government is considering
going down this path, why would the Minister for Commerce not simply open it up
to a general tender to see who else is interested in the management, rather than
just handing it over to the CCI?

I am not sure how I can explain this in any other way. I have
tried on the last two occasions. The very questions that the member asked
yesterday are the ones that I am seeking answers to by way of exploring the
idea and seeing what it is that the CCI proposes, and whether it is a sensible
idea. Decisions can then be made regarding the subject. It is premature to talk
about handing over to the CCI. It is simply an exploration of an idea in order
to get advice on it and to work out what the metes and bounds of it are.
