CHILD CARE — REGIONS
642. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the minister representing the Minister for
Early Childhood Education:
I
refer to the answer provided to question without notice 588 asked on 13 June
2023 relating to page 521 of volume 2 of budget paper No 2 and the line
item ''Access to Regional Childcare'' and the $1.431 million
estimated actual spend in 2022–23.
(1) Noting that
the minister did not provide a breakdown of how the $1.431 million has been
allocated, will the minister now provide a full breakdown of these funds?
(2) Will the minister provide a breakdown
of how the funding of $355 000 was allocated in 2021–22?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Early Childhood Education.
(1) Of the $1.43 million
in funds budgeted in the 2022–23 year, $0.2 million has been allocated
to local governments in regional areas to
fund retention and attraction packages for childcare workers. The balance of the funds budgeted for the current and out years is planned as grant funding
and is subject to a process to determine the
recipient organisations, program durations, deliverables and public
announcements. These details were estimated at the time of the initial
funding allocation, and once the process is completed and allocations are
finalised, the timing of the funding will be adjusted to allocate the full
funding through the midyear review or budget processes.
(2) The funding
for the 2021–22 financial year has been disbursed to local government
organisations to fund retention and
attraction packages and a $25 000 grant to one non-government organisation,
totalling $355 340.
A detailed
breakdown is in tabular form and I seek leave to have that incorporated into Hansard .
